What’s Your House Painting Method?

Exterior Painting Contractor

Brandon,

I’m curious to know, how do you paint your houses outside?

This is the method I always used…

1 – Pressure-wash

2 – Cover all the landscaping

3 – Scrape loose and flaking paint – sand if necessary

4 – Spot prime and spot paint raw substrates

5 – Starting at the top, paint the soffit and fascia…

6 – Work your way down the body of the home

7 – Clean up

Is this basically how you do it?

I’ll bet it is. Why? Because it’s the right way to do it.

Now, what if someone said they had a difference of opinion on this? What if they said you should…

Pressure-wash, scrape and sand at the END – after all the painting had been done?

You would laugh them out of the room!

Painters know there is a right order of operations and methodology for painting a house.

If you don’t do things in the right order, you have a mess on your hands – along with a very unhappy client.

Can I let you in on a secret? This also applies to job costing, estimating, bonus programs, sales systems, client retention, recruiting, hiring and managing painters.

Guess what? Most painters don’t know this – and many argue with me about it. They think just “any old way” of doing the “non-painting” aspects of a business will lead to GREAT RESULTS!

It doesn’t. Ever.

Just as there is a right and a wrong way to paint a house, there are right and wrong way to run certain aspects of your business.

One method leads to less stress, another to MORE stress.

One method makes a LOT of money, the other method makes little money (often 1/3 to 1/5 as much – even for BIG companies)

If you have a sneaking suspicion that there are aspects of your painting business that are not quite right, you should at least have someone evaluate them who KNOWS what “right” looks like.

Not to brag, but that person is me.

I’m not a genius, but after seven years of working with the world’s most successful painters SPECIFICALLY on business systems, I’ve simply gotten very good at it.

It’s a matter of experience and documented performance.

If you need help, please just reply back to this blog post.

There’s not need to “paint your houses” like a rookie.

It’s just too expensive and your painting career is shorter than you know.

Let’s get it right – together.

Have a GREAT weekend!

“Our first campaign reached $60,041.98! That's a huge percentage of our annual sales! You don't pick the peach orchard just one time. Different peaches ripen every day. Thanks for encouraging us to keep after it!”

“15 requests for quotes and closed and/or completed $23,000 of work and I still have a few more to do. Conservatively this campaign will net $25,000 in found money in the first 45 days! Thanks Brandon!”

“This year has been the biggest year of growth for us. We're double where we were last year. I realized the real money in this business is in the marketing of the services - not the doing of the services.”
