My Friend Eric the Concrete Guy

One of my best friends is named Eric. He owns a successful concrete and foundation repair business he started right out of college – at age the “ripe-old age” of 22.

Eric and I met when I formed a unique micro-referral group for tradespeople during the “Great Recession.”

He was in my wedding and we’ve enjoyed watching each other’s kids grow up. We spend time together camping, smoking cigars, and talking about business.

But, I have a previously unspoken confession to make here – I envy Eric and have for quite some time.

You see, Eric is about six years younger than I am. He started an “equity building business” right out of college, while I was still in the “time for money business” of political and marketing consulting – until I launched my painting company.

What I envy about Eric is that he got started so early. If I had to do it all over again, I would have done the exact same thing.

But guess what – I can’t “go back”… and neither can you!

Here’s a piece of wisdom I often cling to:

“The best time to plant an oak tree was 30 years ago, but the second best time is today.”

If you know deep-down inside that you should have grown your painting business 5, 10, 20, or even 30 years ago – don’t worry about that.

If you now understand that developing business-growth systems are they key to taking your business to the next level, but you’ve continually “put it off” for years – don’t worry about that.

Today, right now, you have an opportunity to “plant your painting oak tree” by simply AFFIRMING that you will do it and then TAKING SMALL ACTIONS to set your plans into motion.

Let the past be but the past. Focus your time and attention toward shaping your future into what you would have it be.

Start small or start BIG. But, by all means, S-T-A-R-T!

P.S. It does not take 30-years to see results from marketing your painting services. In fact, many strategies and business growth plans can generate leads and produce sales in 30-days or less.

Don’t get discouraged. Get determined. Then, get going! BL
