This amazing man, Shawn, sums up perfectly why I get out of the bed every morning and work so hard to change businesses and lives.
He’s an inspiration to anyone who wants to begin the journey to business improvement, but is uncertain how to get started. He details the grit, determination, and persistence that is required to leave the past behind and embrace a brighter, bigger future.
Shawn had a thousand reasons to lay down and quit. He’s in a tiny, rural market that most would point to as an excuse for failure. He didn’t get his degree in businesses. He struggled with deep, personal challenges, as we all do (myself included.)
He’s not just a business success story – he’s a personal friend and will always have a special place in my heart.
I checked in on him just the other day and he’s doing well. He’s set up in a new home, his kids are growing, his wife is beautiful, and his business is profitable and manageable (even though he still wants it to do better.) Plus, I am happy to report, he finally has taken my advice to get a hobby and enjoy the fruits of his labor. Like so many owners, he finds it challenging to “cut work off” and live (it’s lodged deep in his DNA and psyche to be a provider for his family FIRST.)
I absolutely hate being praised – especially in public. This video makes me want to crawl out of the room and I can’t say why: Maybe some deep-seeded childhood conflicts… who knows…
However, if you want to be able to help people in your business (and this advice applies to your painting company), you must share the stories of those who have benefited from your efforts in their lives. And you must share them in the light of day…
